Endgame has a very exact structure, like a musical score, requiring enormous precision from the artists. Despite their closed structure, Beckett’s plays are so rich and multilayered that they almost demand that we return to them from time to time, these metaphoric writings always allowing us to reflect upon everyday life. Beckett often speaks about the dignity of disappearing: his characters hate the terribleness of physical death – the decay, starvation, disintegration. Even so, I don’t consider any of Beckett’s writing as dark drama, because on the one hand, desperation is the highest form of hope, while on the other, dependence, solidarity, and togetherness are very powerfully present.
