The 5^th Edition of the Interferences International Theatre Festival has concluded on Sunday evening, with The Good Person of Szechwanperformed by the ensemble of the Vígszínház from Budapest. The Hungarian Theatre of Cluj hosted 21 theatrical ensembles from 14 different countries during the 11 days of the festival. This year the biennial theatrical event welcomed ensembles from all around the world - from South Korea to the United States of America, from Germany and Luxembourg to Russia, etc. The main theme of the festival was The Stranger’s Odyssey, a topic represented in the 31 performances rendered by the guest ensembles of the event.

 

Sold out performance venues accompany the 5th edition of the Interferences International Theatre Festival in Cluj, which focuses on the idea of strangeness. The most popular performance of the first week was Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure, directed by Declan Donellan, a coproduction of the Moscow Art Drama Theatre Pushkin and the Cheek by Jowl ensemble. The classic story placed within a contemporary Russian setting analyzes the relationship between power and the individual. 

In addition to the several performances that take place daily, during the past weekend, the Interferences Festival of Cluj awaited its guests also with movie screenings, concerts, book presentations and exhibitions 

The 5th edition of the Interferences International Theatre Festival began on Thursday, November 24, with a solemn opening ceremony and the Ljubljana National Theatre's performance of Faust. 

The 5th Edition of the Interferences International Theatre Festival will commence on Thursday, November 24. 20 guest performances from 14 countries are featured in this year’s program, including two by the Hungarian Theater of Cluj.

During the 5th edition of the Interferences International Theatre Festival, Declan Donnellan, Artistic Director of Cheek by Jowl, will lead professional actors in an exploration of principles from his book The Actor and the Target which may enable them to feel more free in their work, in areas they feel blocked.

 We hereby present the official program of the 5th Interferences International Theater Festival, an event organized every two years by the Hungarian Theatre of Cluj. Between November 24 and December 4 a total of twenty theatrical ensembles from 14 different countries will participate at this year’s festival. The motto of the 2016 edition of the festival is The Stranger’s Odyssey.
