This concert is my meeting with the violin. The violin played my my father in the evening when he returned from his job. The violin that he later had sold. And that I couldn’t hear anymore. The violin that belonged to an alleged nexus of my family with Niccolò Paganini. The devil’s violinist. When I heard Bălănescu playing the violin I heard in it these notes that streamed like the cry of the soul. I’ve heard again these notes that didn’t let me sleep at night, when I was a child. And I heard in it the songs of other lives, of exiles, of the pride of a people, the songs of a beautiful and bitter land: Romania. The voice and the violin came closer and got mixed with words by Pasolini, Rimbaud, Whitman, and Eliot, in order to try to find again these secret clews, perhaps magical, that are connecting people and stories, beyond differences, beyond nations, languages, beyond being here, alive, beyond being already passed away. Who knows, maybe music is this secret story that connects things and gives them harmony.
