In my opinion, Christmas at the Ivanovs, precedes the isms to come. It can be interpreted also as surrealism, but at the same time absurd appears in it as poetry, as a conceptual language, since it doesn't become absurd in regard to reality. This poetry renounces to politics. Yet repression of sexuality, social hypocrisy, the oppression of norms and laws is there in every moment of the play, or these are the problems expressed in Vvedenski's special manner, in its peculiar language. Literature and theatre overwrite each other alternately, even in their written form, generating a specific truth.
